Family bonding nurtures happy families
|
|
Most families today have two working parents and our children are in the care of babysitters or even our maids. So it is important that we establish family time together. This is usually a conscious effort especially for new parents as this will not only help you to have quality and quantity time with your children, but also time for you as a couple or by yourself.
Family Day or Family Night
- Firstly, decide on a day or night that is exclusively for your family. Dedicate this time to only doing fun things together. Be it staying home or going out to special places.
- Include your child in your schedule. This not only means bringing them along when you are running errands but also when you are doing chores. Let your child stay close by.
- Eat together. Make it a habit. It’s also a good time for children to learn good eating habits from you.
- Play together. While you may think your children are a little too young to enjoy the experience, remember in a couple of years time, this may end up as a movie night or game night when they are older. This is also a time which you and your family will cherish as time goes by.
- Take an after dinner stroll around the garden or in the neighborhood. It really bonds you.
This months' adventure
- Visit a local tourist location like the zoo, planetarium, butterfly farm, bird park, water park or even garden parks which usually have well equipped playgrounds.
- You can even be a little more original and visit pottery houses, just check the internet for their listings.
- Even a visit to an orphanage can be a learning and humbling experience for all.
- Bring your other nephew and nieces, or close friends’ children along. You will be surprised that this actually teaches your children to associate. That way you can also help to develop their social skills and be so much a part of their development.
- On a bigger scale, plan a vacation. This can be a short 3 day vacation to the nearest beach or highlands, which offer a different climate and scenery from their everyday surroundings.
Basically, it's all about doing things together as a family. Create the musketeer "all for one and one for all" concept similar to the famous novel “The Three Musketeers”. Our goal as parents is to get that message across that a family that plays together, stays together. And playing in this context literally means doing things together. Once you start a "tradition", your children will always look forward to it as they grow up.
